Local soup kitchen needs help from the community

The Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen needs help moving into their new location.

The Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen is temporarily closed as it moves to a new location.

The move came with some setbacks, and now people who always give back to the Huntsville community are asking for help.

The Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen has been helping people in Huntsville for 16 years. They serve 4,000 meals and give out over 100 food boxes every month. The soup kitchen also acts as a safe place for many people in the area, and they have a lot to do before they can serve meals again.

Rose of Sharon President Theresa Wilson said, “We’re a rest pit place. We’re a home. We miss our family. We want our people to come back.”

They’re excited that the new building is bigger than the old location, but they’re worried about the amount of work they still have ahead of them.

“Summer is coming and the kids are going to need a place to eat because school is out. We see a lot of children during the summer, so we want to be up and running so we can meet that need for them,” said Wilson.

Their goal is to open by June 1st. They say they need help from the community if they’re going to be fully functioning before summer.
