The Grissom High PTSA and National Honor Society, along with Tennessee Valley Votes and the Madison County Registrar’s Office, are helping eligible Grissom High seniors register to vote.

Karen Jones, one of the volunteer coordinators, hopes to expand the student voter drive next year. She says, “There is a real need to get students involved in the election process as early as possible to get everyone involved in their community, state, and nation.”

Suzanne Bailey, an AP Government and AP Economics instructor at Grissom, was excited about the registration drive. Bailey says she works to instill a sense of civic responsibility in her students, and this brings her class lessons into real life, reinforcing the lesson that every vote matters.

Madison County has a total of 247,106 registered voters as of February 8, 2017.  Madison County voter qualifications include:  United States Citizenship, resident of Madison County, 18 years of age on or before Election Day, and no convictions of a disqualifying felony.
