Going back-to-school shopping isn’t a luxury that all students are afforded. Some students may find themselves struggling throughout the school year to perform well in class when they do not have the same resources as their peers.

Many school supply drives have been popping up across the city, but few cater to older students. Students in middle and high school need different materials than younger students. From graphing calculators, to USB drives and protractors, older students need materials for class that aren’t generally found at most supply drives.

One local business is doing their part to help students in need. The Landers McLarty Subaru in Huntsville is partnering with The Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama for their “Help a Teen Succeed” School Supply Drive.

We met up with Carmelita Iglesias, Marketing Director of Frank Williams Dealerships,  who explained the importance of holding a drive like this one. She says these needs are crucial to older students. “Many children need access to computers, they need access to flash drives, they need access to graphing calculators they need access to college ruled paper and things like that… and if they don’t have that, then they wouldn’t be able to do the course work. Therefore they will most likely fail the class.”

To donate, drop off your supplies at the Landers McLarty Subaru in Huntsville! They are accepting donations until the end of the month.
