Our population is steadily growing here in Huntsville– and with it, our homeless population is expected to rise up too.

One local group is trying to help get as many people as possible into a home. Huntsville Community of Hope is working on a project to get as many RVs and campers as possible and give our homeless citizens a place to live in a brand new community.

Huntsville Community of Hope is anticipating modeling this RV/ camper community after a similar living arrangement called “Community First Village” in Austin, TX.

Huntsville Community of Hope is anticipating modeling this RV/ camper community after a similar living arrangement called “The Village” in Austin, TX.

They’ve already moved one man in to the first RV.

They say in the long run,  they want to purchase land– or receive a land donation– and build a “camper and tiny-house community” for huntsville’s homeless. But, they say they need your help.

We spoke to Mandy Probus, the President and Co-founder of Community of Hope. She says “Each camper costs around 13,000 dollars, and that’s the camper purchase. And then renovating that camper with excellence. So they get all brand new sheets and towels, we stock the fridge for the first time for them. There’s a lot of really fun things that we can do to help it feel like home.”

They’ve already gotten the support of a few local churches– but, Huntsville Community of Hope is asking locals to give what they can to make this dream a reality. They’re also looking for mentors to help assist homeless men and women in the area during their transitions out of homelessness.

Huntsville Community of Hope is currently collecting donations and plans on continuing the purchases of RVs in 2020. For more on how you can help, click here.
