Kentucky Derby favorite Ohama Beach will scratch after being diagnosed with an entrapped epiglottis, race officials tweeted Wednesday.
According to officials, an epiglottis is a “triangular-shaped cartilage that lies at the base of the airway just in front of the arytenoid cartilages which cover the airway during swallowing. It is normally located above (dorsal) the soft palate.”
The diagnosis will keep Omaha Beach, who was a morning line favorite, from competing in the competition at Kentucky Downs on Sunday, May 4.
