Wednesday evening, the Huntsville Police Department is inviting you out to spread a little bit of holiday cheer. The HPD South Precinct is holding its 2nd Annual “Holiday Open House,” on Wednesday at 5:30pm.
They’ll have cookies, treats, Santa, the Grinch, and much more. And it was all put together by local volunteers. HPD says it’s fun for the whole family– but it serves a bigger purpose— it’s gives the community the chance to meet officers face to face.
You’re also encouraged to bring unwrapped toys to donate to the Marine Corp Toys for Tots Program.
They say, after the tragic loss of Officer Billy Clardy III Friday evening, this open-house almost didn’t happen.
Captain Ken Brooks of Huntsville Police Department tells us, “We decided, this is what Officer Billy Clardy would want us to do. He was a Community Relations Officer. This is the kind of thing that he did. And so that’s why we’re going to do it in his honor because we’re going to carry on.”
They’ll be remembering Officer Clardy tonight, and Redstone Federal Credit Union will be there to collect any donations for his family.
They’ll be out at the South Precinct off of Bailey Cove Road until 7:30, located at 7900 Bailey Cove Road SE.
