Huntsville City Schools shared its resources for students who are experiencing or witnessing bullying, prejudice, or other conflict.
Online tools to report bullying are available on each school’s website. The links, called “Anonymous Alerts” and “Bullying Report Form”, allow students to report concerns. Administrators at the school and district level are immediately notified in order to take prompt action.
According to Keith Ward, Director of Communications & ETV for Huntsville City Schools, the district has programs to teach and recognize positive behaviors (PBIS, or Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports), No Place for Hate anti-bias & diversity education, and Peer Helper programs.
He says they also have school counselors provide lessons to educate and promote awareness, and HCS employees are encouraged to lead by example and provide support if they see bullying.
Ward also says that students who are found to engage in bullying face consequences outlined in the district’s Behavioral Learning Guide.
