Families torn apart by borders reunited for only a few minutes Saturday.

More than 300 families from both sides of the U.S. and Mexico border gathered in the middle of the Rio Grande for “Hugs not Walls.”

For just a couple minutes, the border is opened for these families – they reunited with hugs, tears and smiles. This event is usually held twice a year, but in may it was canceled at the request of Customs and Border Protection, who cited security concerns with building a fence there.
