Dozens of people in Huntsville came out to the Downtown Rescue Mission tonight to discuss ways to most efficiently help the city’s homeless.

Statistics show that last year, over 450 people in Huntsville were homeless. Over 100 of them are considered chronically homeless.

They say homelessness in Huntsville is growing and the many resources that are offered in Huntsville are making some become dependent on the community.

First Stop Chairman of Outreach, Patty Lowe, said, “What’s happened is there’s so much waste in the camp that the resources are not being used, and we’re also enabling the people to stay in the camps rather than being motivated to connect with resources that can help them better their lives.”

Anyone can attend these community meetings. The next one is set for April 16th.
