Governor Kay Ivey on spoke in person on Tuesday for the first time since she apologized for taking part in a skitinvolving blackface while in college.

Since that apology lawmakers and interest groups have responded. Groups like the NAACP have gone as far as to say the governor should resign.

At an Alabama Bicentennial event in Montgomery, Ivey said, “Most of the comments I’ve had have been very encouraging and very supportive and very understanding. I am grateful for that support and understanding. It was a mistake I made in college and I apologize for it and I am grateful for everybody’s support, including African-Americans”

Ivey says she does not plan to resign over this controversy.
