A parked car caught on fire just hours ago, and it all happened in the driveway of a home.
Huntsville Fire and Rescue got a call around 2:00 pm for a possible house fire. Units responded and saw a great deal of smoke coming from the side of the house. The resident’s car was on fire.
The owner of the home said he had just driven home, parked his car, and walked inside, when a neighbor yelled out to him to tell him that the same car he’d just driven was on fire.
Four people were inside the home– they all evacuated safely.
We spoke with Captain Frank McKenzie of Huntsville Fire and Rescue. He told us, “They were able to extinguish the fire pretty quickly. Not much damage inside the house at all. But, due to damage on the wiring inside the house, Huntsville Utilities had to pull the power and cut the gas off.”
Because of the wiring damage, the residents will not be able to stay in the home until further notice. Red Cross was on site to offer assistance and living quarters. Homeowners declined. We’re told they’ll stay with family and friends.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
