Early indications point to failed landing gear as the cause of the fiery crash of Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s plane last week.
Officials say when the plane landed, the gear collapsed, allowing the right wing to make contact with the roadway. The plane bounced twice, then continued airborne down the runway until it bounced a third time, slid off the pavement, into the grass and through a fence. That’s where it came to rest on the edge of this highway.
Fortunately, no one onboard was seriously injured.
