Mrs. Asia Hester teaches sixth grade social studies and middle school creative writing at Huntsville's Academy for Academics and Arts.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Mrs. Asia Hester teaches sixth grade social studies and middle school creative writing at the Academy for Academics and Arts in Huntsville. She has been teaching for nine years and is known for going above and beyond for her students and her fellow teachers. She loves helping kids find their niche and what they want to with their futures.

Mrs. Hester says, "The students really enjoy getting to come to school here and participate in their different arts activities and I just really appreciate being a part of that.”

Mrs. Asia Hester says creating a comfortable and safe place is so important, especially with creative writing. She wants kids to be able to use writing as an outlet to share their emotions, saying, “Being able to express yourself is such a life skill and it helps them really come out of their box and shine."

Kids know that they are a part of a family in her classroom, and she is there for them in the good moments and the harder moments. She explains, “It still comes back to that place of love and acceptance and an understanding and just helping them to, you know, realize that I see you as a human and I love you."

Mrs. Hester is also a Magnet Program Coordinator and loves getting students engaged with learning. But most importantly, she wants her kids to know that they are important and are capable of great things. She says, “I hope that the students leave with a love for learning and that they know that they are heard and that they are loved. I just want them know that they have a place in this world and that they're accepted, no matter what."
