Early morning fire leads to Arson arrest

A Florence man is behind bars for allegedly attempting to set the house he was staying at on fire.

Florence Police say they were called out to 962 Beale St. on an unwanted guest call around 3:30 Wednesday morning.

According to police, when they arrived they found where 65-year-old Howard Vaughn had attempted to start the house he was staying in on fire.

Witnesses told police that Vaughn had started fires in several different locations. Two of the homes occupants were able to put out the fires without major damage occurring, or anyone getting injured.

Vaughn was charged with Arson 1st degree and with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 

Vaughn is in the Lauderdale County jail with bonds set at $55,000.
