The Decatur Police are seeking a person of interest in connection with a January 23rd shooting.

One man, Victor Lamond Mitchell, Jr., is in custody, charged with Assault 1st Degree.

On January 23rd, Morgan County Central Disparch received a call that two males had been shot on 19th Ave. SE in Decatur.

One male, Dedrick Rashad Moody, had been shot multiple times in the torso and had a bullet lodged in his neck. The other male, Victor Lamond Mitchell Jr., was suffering from a gunshot wound to his left arm.

During the investigation, Det. Birchfield learned that Moody had been shot while seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle returned gunfire at the shooter. After speaking with witnesses, Mitchell was identified as the man who shot Moody. Mitchell turned himself in to Decatur Police on Monday, Feb. 6th.

The Decatur Police Department is seeking a second person of interest in the case by the name of Terrell Wright. Wright is a black male in his late twenties to early thirties. Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Wright is asked to contact Det. Birchfield at 256-341-4819.

The Decatur Police would like to remind the public that the defendant is accused of the above crimes and should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
