Decatur man arrested for Fourth of July shooting, police say

The man is being held at the Morgan County Jail without bond.

DECATUR, Ala. — The Decatur Police Department has arrested a man for capital murder in regards to a Fourth of July shooting that took place in the area of East Acres – near 18th Avenue SE and Locust Street SE.

Shannon Doors Thomas, 26, has been charged with capital murder after police said he shot a person early in the morning on July 4.

Police responded to the Decatur Morgan Hospital, where the shooting was reported, at approximately 1:34 a.m. and later determined the location the shooting had occurred to be in the area of East Acres.

The victim was transported to the Decatur Morgan Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head and was later transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital for further medical care. He was later pronounced dead.

Thomas is being held at the Morgan County Jail without bond.
