MidCity watermelon carving contest: there's still time to vote!

MidCity District and The Camp hosted their 3rd Annual Watermelon Carving Contest and although there were nine submissions, there can only be one winner!

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Watermelons being used as canvases? Yes, you heard right! And today at The Camp, that's exactly what took place!

9 contestants submitted their watermelon masterpieces in hopes of being announced the winner on Tuesday, July 6.

Yes, there is still time to vote!

We spoke with one of the nine contestants, who is originally from China and celebrating her fifth 4th of July here in the states. She recently started her watermelon carving journey as well.

"I come here and the first year I don't speak any English, I only know two words - yes, no. My Mom had to use a lot of translators to me, so I was like 'okay' and I like the Fourth of July, like I can see the fireworks because normally you only get to during Chinese New Year and now it's like, a lot of tradition. Every year my Mom will buy me a shirt, she will give me a little hair stuff, make me look cute, stuff like that - we love Fourth of July," said Harper Hatcher.
