Five local leaders were honored with service awards on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Locals met at Zenzele Consignment, a cultural hub here in Huntsville. 

Each of the award recipients have programs that reflect the dedication, spirit of selflessness and message of unity Dr. King helped spread. 

These men and women all hold community-wide programs to help emphasize help emphasize the importance of health, equality and empowering youth. 

One recipient, Ivy Joe Milan tells us, “I was really surprised that they wanted to give me an award. Myself, I don’t feel like I’ve done anything so special. The things I did were trying to help me. But in trying to help other people, you realize that those people really end up helping you.”

The recipients then went on to participate in community outreach, connecting with neighbors to spread awareness of all of the programs that are offered to help empower communities of color here in Huntsville.
