Huntsville is considered an innovative town, and as of last week, downtown has one more thing to offer to its residents.

With the help of a few sponsorships and partners, an easy to use bike-share system is in place.

Chad Emerson, CEO and President of Huntsville Inc., says, “If you have an android or an apple iPhone, you can go to the iTunes store or the Play Store in Google, download the Zagster app and it’s really simple and intuitive, and from there you can sign up for an annual membership which is half price until May 6th or try it with an hourly membership.”

With over 40 bikes spanning 6 different hubs, the system offers something for everyone.

“One it’s an alternative form of transportation. If you live on one side of downtown, you can take the bike to the other side and just get around downtown without having to worry about parking. Also, if you’re a guest to downtown, you’re staying at a hotel or just visiting for the day, you can explore it a really convenient and inexpensive way.”

And while today may not be a great day for a bike ride in north Alabama, Emerson does say it has been a success for the short time that it has been open.”

“We are really open minded to partnering with community groups because we thinking biking is really a convenient and healthy way to explore our city.”

With one of the big complaints being the lack of bike lanes downtown, Emerson says there is a city meeting in April that will be focused on making downtown more accessible to bikers as well as pedestrians.
