Since 2015, Alabama has been collecting online sales taxes through a voluntary system. The current online sales tax rate in the state is 8%. Lawmakers say this year the state is expected to collect $200 million from online sales taxes.

Alabama will have their annual tax free weekend starting at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 19. Certain back-to-school items like computers, books, and clothing will be free of the state’s 4% sales or use tax.
