On August 1, 2019, at approximately 12:42 p.m., the Decatur Police Department, Decatur Fire & Rescue, and First Response EMS were dispatched to a vehicle collision with entrapment, just north of the Hudson Memorial Bridge on Hwy 31 N (Causeway).
Units arrived on-scene and observed that there were two vehicles involved, a silver Chevrolet HHR and an 18-wheeler. The investigation showed that the silver HHR was travelling southbound and crossed the median into the northbound lanes of traffic. Upon entering the oncoming lanes of traffic, the HHR struck an 18-wheeler.
The driver of the HHR and her passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of Decatur Fire & Rescue, and they were transported to Huntsville Hospital by ambulance.
Their condition at the time is unknown. Updates will be provided as information becomes available. The investigation is ongoing.
