12-year-old boy identified in Smith Lake boating accident

Marine Patrol troopers have identified the 12 year old killed in Saturday’s boat crash as Christian Hart.

UPDATE — May 26, 2019 — 4:35 p.m.

CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Marine Patrol troopers have identified the 12 year old killed in Saturday’s boat crash as Christian Hart. 

Investigators say Hart was killed when he was hit by a boat near the Goat Island area of Smith Lake. He had been tubing in the area prior to the crash.

10:15 p.m.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirms a 12-year-old boy was killed in a single-vehicle boat crash around 6:20 p.m. Saturday night. According to investigators, a boat was pulling three juveniles on tubes when the crash happened. 

The Cullman County Coroner isn’t releasing the victim’s name at this time due to his age.

May 25, 2019  — 7 p.m.

ALEA Marine Patrol troopers are investigating two boating accidents this Memorial Day weekend.

The boating accidents happened on Saturday, May 25. One is in the area of Goat Island on Smith Lake and the second is near Talucah Landing on Lake Wheeler. 

At this time, troopers have not mentioned injuries from the boating accidents. Troopers will release more information as it becomes available.
