Pero Family Farms Food Co. issues recall for its Butternut Squash Trays due to potential Listeria contamination

Pero Family Farms Food Company, LLC has issued a voluntary recall of its Butternut Squash Trays due to a potential Listeria Monocytogenes contamination.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. Additionally, the FDA said Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The affected product was distributed under the Pero Family Farms Label in several states, including the following:

  • Alabama
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Missouri
  • New York
  • Ohio
  • Texas
  • Virginia

The product is packaged in a flexible, clear plastic container with labeling on the top and bottom of the container or in a clear plastic bag. The affected items were distributed from January 2 through January 11, 2021.

As of Tuesday, January 19, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the potential contamination.

Consumers are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund or to discard the product.
