Try It Before You Buy It: Furbo pet camera

We tested the Furbo pet camera to find out if you can really see, talk, and toss treats from anywhere.

Do you want an easy way to look after your furry friend when you’re away?

Maybe the Furbo dog camera is what you need. It claims you can see, talk, and toss treats from anywhere.

So, we decided to Try It Before You Buy It.

Setting it up and installing the app was quick and simple. We filled it with tiny dog treats and as soon as we were connected, we could immediately see our cute little dog on the couch. The picture was great, and we could hear everything that was going on in the room.

We decided to test out the treating feature, which requires a simple swipe of the finger. The dog will hear a squeaking sound and a light will shine, so they know the treat is on its way. You can also tap to talk to your pet to inform them. This feature worked great, but one thing we noticed is that you cannot control its direction or strength like the app makes it feel.

Night vision worked, but the room we tested it out in was a bit large, so things in the back of the room were not as bright as they should be.

(see video for the complete test)

The Furbo worked as advertised. It was simple to set up and connect, the camera quality and microphone were excellent. And the ability to give your dog a treat was convenient, despite our dog fearing it at times... The design was also a nice feature that does not scream “I’m a camera.”

And now, the negatives: there’s no way to cover the camera or disable any of the features without unplugging it.

It will only dispense small treats, no big bones here.

Night vision could be better.

But the most significant negative and the one holding this back is the initial cost and optional subscription plan to get features that should be free.

Since you cannot use the device to its full potential without a subscription, we rate this as a “consider it.”
