Emily Owen is the FOX54 News Weekend Meteorologist. Before joining the WZDX team in May 2019, she worked at WVUA 23 News in Tuscaloosa, AL.
Emily is from Oneonta, Alabama. She graduated from Mississippi State University in May of 2019 with a Bachelors of Science in Geosciences, concentrating on professional meteorology with an emphasis in broadcasting.
Being from the south and experiencing multiple tornadoes pass through her hometown, it was hard for Emily to not develop an interest in weather, specifically severe weather. Getting to personally experience the tornado outbreak of April 27, 2011 is when Emily realized her love for weather needed to become her career. She not only wanted to help keep the community safe from disaster, but to also learn the science behind it.
When Emily is not studying the weather, she enjoys playing with her cavapoo Fitz, being nose-deep in a good book, binge-watching her favorite Netflix series, online shopping, running/biking, and attending community events.
Emily is very excited to be able to stay in her home state of Alabama to forecast for her family/friends and to help keep the Valley safe.
