Gerry McCarron - Week 10 First Down Friday Night MVP

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - "The sled dogs pretty much destroyed Clements defense and I kind of just benefited off of their destruction," said Gerry McCarron.

It had been more than four years since St. John Paul II had won a football game, but on Friday night Gerry McCarron ran for 199 yards on 32 carries and caught an 18 yard touchdown pass to help push the Falcons past Clements. But he's not taking the credit.

"At the beginning of the game when they got up by 13 our spirits were down. But then they fumbled and our o-lineman, Nick Skarupa kind of brought us in to the huddle and told us we needed to capitalize and Nick Skarupa and Patrick McCarron made their defensive line and linebackers look like little babies."

A one win season isn't great, but that one victory mean's a lot to a team without the size or numbers that it's opponents have and McCarron is a big reason they finally came out on top.

"He plays hard, he works really hard, he does his job, he holds his teammates accountable," Coach David Lloyd. "He had a great day running the football, I think he was right at 200 yards rushing, which I've been told is a single game record for us as a school. But he just work hard, he put the team on his back. That's what we want to end the season with and carry that momentum into the off season and continue to improve and continue to get better. We bring back a lot of guys. Our hopes are high for next season and it was a good way to end it."

This was McCarron's first year on the team and he knows he wouldn't be winning an award without his teammates.

"I wish I could kind of bring the offensive line,  make them the players of the week, because they deserve it more than me. They had a really dominate game and they deserve it more than me."
