UNA responds to lawsuit filed by "Jane Doe"

The University of North Alabama has released an official statement in response to a lawsuit filed by former UNA student "Jane Doe".

In her suit, Doe alleges that she was sexually assaulted by a UNA professor and that UNA was deliberately indifferent in response to the actions of the professor "in violation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and under Alabama State Law."

In its statement, UNA says that, "The University vehemently disputes the allegations in Jane Doe’s lawsuit. UNA will vigorously defend against those claims in litigation."

It goes on to state that it does not comment on details underlying pending litigation and, because the suit has been brought by a former student, its opportunity to "disclose such information" is limited by federal privacy laws.
