Special election write-in votes will be tallied in Alabama

We'll soon know how many votes Nick Saban received.

(WZDX) - We will soon know how many people voted for Nick Saban, and other write-in candidates, in the December 12th special election.

Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill announced Monday his office will identify and record the write-in votes because the number of those write-in votes is greater than the margin of victory for Democratic Candidate Doug Jones. Merrill says the decision is in accordance with state law.

"The difference, as of today, in the two candidates total votes received is 20,634 and the total number of write-in votes cast was 22,814," Merrill announced Monday in a press release.

While being interviewed on CNN, one Alabama voter revealed he voted for Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban. There is speculation Saban received the most write-in votes.

We should know the numbers by January 3rd. That is the deadline for the board to certify the votes.
