Monaco Theater shooter surrenders to police

Victim expected to survive

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - UPDATE: 08/06 - Huntsville Police say the 16-year-old victim in Saturday night's shooting outside the Monaco Theater is expected to survive.

Police also say the 15-year-old suspected shooter involved turned himself in shortly after the incident. They are now facing first degree assault charges.

Police say there was an altercation between the individuals that led to the shooting.

Their names will not be released.

A shooting just outside the Monaco movie theater at the Bridge Street shopping complex may have stemmed from an altercation between two people who know each other.

In an email on Saturday evening, Lieutenant Stacy Bates of Huntsville Police said at least one man is in critical condition at the hospital.

Lt. Bates stressed that he "wanted to make sure everyone knew it was not an "active shooter" situation at the movie theater that began at around 9:30 P.M.

Police have remained on scene investigating, deep into the night.

Others may have been injured during the confusion right after the shots were fired, as they were trying to vacate the area.

We are awaiting word on those peoples' conditions.

According to our reporter on scene, police do not have a suspect in custody, as of 10:35 P.M.
