Alabama voter deadlines approach

Voter officials encourage residents to be prepared for upcoming election.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - If you have not registered to vote, you still have time before the state's special senate election on December 12, 2017.

The deadline to register normally is November 27th, or 14 days before the election.

Remember, if you move from one county to another, you must register to vote in your new county. Voter registration doesn't follow you from one county to another.

As for absentee ballots, the deadline for your ballots includes being postmarked on December 11th as well as reaching the hands of the Absentee Election Manager by noon of December 12th. If you are returning the ballot in person though, the deadline is pushed to 5pm on December 12th.

However, if you are in the military and/or overseas, he ballot must be postmarked by December 12th, but has until the noon on December 19th to arrive.

The Alabama Secretary of State's Alabama Votes site has an FAQ page that can answer many voter questions and contains phone numbers for the Alabama Elections Division.
