Morning accident claims one life

Crash was at intersection of Hwy 72 East and Dug Hill Rd.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - An early morning crash on Hwy 72 East claimed the life of a Huntsville man

The two car collision happened around eight this morning on Hwy 72 East at the intersection with Dug Hill Rd.

State troopers say that James Morgan Johnson, 70, was killed when his Chevy Tahoe was struck by a Nissan SUV. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected.

This intersection concerns local residents. Gurley resident Joseph Schultz says, "I think if they added a little more noticeable light just so you can see it so people can know that they kind of need to stop rather than shoot it right on and people need to pay more attention to oncoming traffic.”

Clayton Dutton, who also lives in Gurley, says that while he hasn’t had too many really bad experiences, he has had someone who wasn’t paying attention come out in front of him.

Monday morning’s crash is still under investigation.
