Grissom High student honored for life-saving actions

High school student saved victim in motorcycle accident

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - A Grissom High School student is being honored for her life-saving actions.

Jalen Decroy is senior who did not let her youth stop her from helping an injured motorcycle victim.

As an ROTC student Jalen Decroy is receiving quite the accolades.

Without going into great details, Decroy said she witnessed an accident where someone was tossed from a motorcycle and knew right away the victim would need help.

Instead of standing by, she jumped in and used a belt to stop the bleeding.

She is now being credited with saving a life, but does not want the spotlight on her.

This high school student is hoping more people step up and help.

"Everybody should at least have some basic knowledge in First Aid. You never know it can happen to anybody," said Decroy.

Huntsville's Chief of Police Mark McMurray was part of the ceremony today.

He presented Decroy with a proclamation from  Mayor Tommy Battle and a certificate from the Police Department.

Chief Mark McMurray said, "She reacted with a level of responsibility that's years ahead of what you expect a teenager to do."
