Avoid frozen pipes as temperatures plummet overnight

Huntsville Utilities urges customers to take precautions to prevent frozen pipes

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - It is a message we can't deliver to you enough, avoid frozen pipes in your home!

Huntsville Utilities is urging customers to take all precautions to keep the pipes in your home from bursting.

It can be costly and cause a lot of damage for you.

When temperatures drop to freezing and below the agency advises you to let your faucet drip, open cabinets underneath your bathroom sink and add extra insulation to pipes.

Joe Gehrdes with Huntsville Utilities said, "Especially if you're going to be gone for work during the day and especially overnight when everyone is asleep you want to keep something on, again just barely on, so your pipes don't freeze."

Water pipes are constructed throughout your homes.

If you do experience a burst or frozen pipe you should shut off the main water line in your property to prevent flooding and contact a plumber.
