Austin Winfield, Weekend Meteorologist for WZDX News

Austin hails from the Tampa area in sunny Florida, but is excited to now call the Tennessee Valley, home. Growing up, he remembers watching storms roll in from the back patio of his house as well as his dad forecasting the weather on the local tv station. When college rolled around though, it was an easy decision to follow his dad into the meteorological world, so Florida State University was a natural choice.

After graduating cum laude with a meteorology degree in hand in 2013, he worked the summer as a meteorologist at WTXL in Tallahassee, FL. However, once the summer was over, he moved to Montana's capital to become the chief meteorologist at KTVH/KBGF in Helena.

After nearly 2 years enjoying the incredible mountain views of the Rockies and endless outdoor activities, Austin was thrilled to move back to civilization and spend a year in Ohio at WLIO. During his time in West Central Ohio, Austin was awarded the prestigious AMS Seal and now looks to take on the ever-changing weather in the Tennessee Valley.

If Austin isn't at work, you'll probably find him exploring the area, hiking, skiing, watching his favorite sports teams, or trying different food joints. If you happen to see him in the community though, feel free to ask about the weather!
