Kristen Jackson Wins The Valley's Top Teacher

Congrats to the Jones Valley Elementary School Teacher!

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Teaching makes Kristen Jackson happy.

She loves watching little people become good people, who love to learn and be kind to others.

"I like my teacher because she teaches us to be kind to other people," said first grade student, Grayson Chamness.

"How does it make you feel?"

"Happy," said Chamness.

At Jones Valley Elementary School in Huntsville you'll hear plenty of compliments about Mrs. Kristen Jackson.

"She's nice, she's kind, and she's pretty," said student, Harper Debolt.

"I like about my teacher that she's nice and cute," said student, Indya Watkins.

"Her personality is that she's really nice and kind to other people," said student, Ellie Pelegreni.

The Valley's Top Teacher says she strives to make students understand how special they truly are.

"If just one student goes home from my class feeling loved and feeling important, than I feel like my job is done," said Mrs. Jackson.

Her classroom Mission Statement is to:

1. Be kind
2. Try your best
3. Raise your hand
4. Be respectful
5. Work hard
6. Learn from your mistakes
7. Follow directions
8. Always be ready to learn

"Here at Jones Valley we look for the journey in everything," said Mrs. Jackson. "That's what our 'J' stands for in our mission statement."

In Mrs. Jackson's classroom, students start their day greeting their neighbors with high fives, fist bumps, and/or hand shakes.

"Our watch for and look for's in our afternoon meetings are: 'how can I be kind to someone else, and how was someone kind to me?'"

Mrs. Jackson also strives to make learning fun.

Students say it's working.

"I like her because she teaches fun stuff to us," said student, Aubrey Patterson.

"She helps me to do better math," said Chamness. "Now I know doubles. What are doubles? Four plus four, five plus five."

Looking back at her 13 years of teaching, and forward to many more, Mrs. Jackson says she wants to be remembered as the teacher who made learning fun.

The classroom shouts: "We love you, Mrs. Jackson!"
"And I love you right back," says Mrs. Jackson.
