Brooke Norton Wins Top Teacher!

Congrats to the East Limestone Middle School Teacher

ATHENS, Ala. - Brooke Norton has always wanted to be a teacher, just like her mother and her grandparents.

"I definitely did not pick teaching because I love the subject material," said Norton, "I just love the kids."

Students, both past and present, say Mrs. Norton is both helpful and sweet.

"She is very personable," said student, Chase Cassady. "(She is) very easy to talk to. She's super smart. I still get her to edit my papers now. She always does it with a smile on her face. So sweet."

The Valley's Top Teacher is known for making students feel as if they have a friend -- someone they can talk to about anything -- even within the first few days of school.

"I feel I can talk to her about anything I could talk to with my friends," said new student, Sara Valenzuela. "She's just like another friend."

East Limestone Middle School's principal says it's no surprise that Mrs. Norton is so likeable by students.

"She's just been great," Mr. Louis Berry. "She does a lot of activities and different things with the students - a lot of hands-on. They love her."

Mrs. Norton is also known for her creative and interactive curriculum both inside and outside the classroom.

She even sponsors the Junior Beta Club, in which she takes students on trips.

"We do a Broadway play, we go museums," said Norton. "...so it's just such an awesome opportunity and experience to learn outside the classroom walls."

Mrs. Norton says teaching doesn't feel like a job because of how happy her students make her.

"I love coming to school. I love this middle school age," said Norton. "They keep me entertained everyday. I learn from them."
