Alabama A&M's Dariauna Lewis & Jalen Johnson earn Player of the Week honors from the SWAC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala — Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs standout Dariauna Lewis and Bulldogs standout Jalen Johnson came out strong in their team's season opener. For their efforts, Lewis earned the SWAC Co-Women's Player of the Week honor and Johnson earned the SWAC Co-Men's Player of the Week honor.

Outstanding Effort Earns AAMU's Lewis SWAC Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week

For the third time of her career, Alabama A&M junior forward Dariauna Lewis (Omaha, Neb.) has earned Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Tyler Pyburn, as announced by the league on Wednesday, December 2.

Lewis delivered an outstanding season opening performance as the Bulldogs upset No. 11 (Mid-Major) Troy 80-69 on Saturday, November 28. In 26 minutes of work she scored 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting and made it a double-double with 10 boards. She also went a perfect 5-of-5 from the foul line and added a block for good measure.

It marks the third time in her brief AAMU career that she has earned SWAC Player of the Week, following collecting honors on November 21, 2019 and January 14, 2020.

Lewis and the Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday, December 13 when they travel to Atlantic 10 member Dayton. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. (CST) in Dayton, Ohio.

Career Game Earns Alabama A&M's Johnson SWAC Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week

For the first time of his career, Alabama A&M sophomore forward Jalen Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) has earned Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Texas Southern's Michael Weathers, as announced by the league on Wednesday, December 2.

Johnson delivered an outstanding season opening performance as the Bulldogs went on the road to defeat in-state opponent Samford, 78-76, on Sunday, November 29.

In 28 minutes of work he scored a career-high 28 points career-highs of 28 points on 13-of-17 shooting along with collecting seven rebounds.

Johnson and the Bulldogs are back in action this Saturday, December 5 when they travel to perennial power Ohio State. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (EST) in Columbus, Ohio.
