Trail of Tears riders pass through North Alabama on Sept. 19

Thousands of motorcycles are expected to pass through Huntsville and Madison County on a route that starts in Bridgeport, AL and goes to Waterloo, AL.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The annual Trail of Tears motorcycle ride will make its way across North Alabama the morning of Saturday, Sept. 19.

I-565 westbound ramps, including the intersections at Hwy 72E, Moores Miller Rd., and Shields Rd., will be closed throughout Huntsville and Madison County.

The closures will be between about 9:00 a.m and 10:00 a.m.. As the last of the motorcycles pass each ramp, the ramp will be opened up.

The Huntsville Police Department want to warn motorists about the closing of west bound I565 entrance ramps, to include intersections at Hwy 72E and Moores Mill Rd and Shields Rd, this Saturday September 19th, through the City of Huntsville and Madison County. This will occur approximately from 9am-10am. As the end of the convoy of motorcycles passes each entrance ramp, the ramp will be opened back up. Below is the path the ride will be taking:

Route through Huntsville and Madison County:

The ride will come into Huntsville westbound on Hwy 72, then continue westbound along I-565 to Exit 3 and stop at Redstone Harley Davidson for 2 hours for lunch, leave at 12:30 and take Old Hwy 20 to  Mooresville Road to Hwy 72 east of Athens and continue west on Hwy 72. All entrance ramps to travel westbound on I-565 will be closed for the safety of the riders as the ride travels through Huntsville.  

HPD will be coordinating the ride and working with the Alabama State Troopers, Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Scottsboro Police Department, Madison County Sheriff's Department, Madison Police Department, Limestone County Sheriff's Department, Athens Police Department, Florence Police Department, local volunteer fire departments and HEMSI as the ride approaches and travels through Huntsville.
