Rose of Sharon in need of holiday food box donations

The soup kitchen is taking up donations for their holiday food boxes through December 18.

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — If you are looking for a way to give this holiday season, the Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen needs your help.

The Huntsville soup kitchen is taking up donations for their holiday food boxes through December 18.

They were able to get 95 Thanksgiving food boxes to families in need. Now, they need help collecting items for the Christmas season.

Rose of Sharon Business Liaison, Megan Letson, said, "It's just amazing to see the community come together and help the people who are really on hard times right now."

The Rose of Sharon says their biggest need is frozen turkeys and hams, but they are also asking for foods like mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, canned mixed vegetables, and chicken broth.

They say the need has grown tremendously since the pandemic.

Last December, they gave out around 30 food boxes, but due to the pandemic, they say 90 families are already signed up to get a box this Christmas.
