Florence City Schools cancels football games due to COVID-19

Games against Brentwood Academy and James Clemens High School were canceled/forfeited; all football players are isolated.

FLORENCE, Ala. — Florence City Schools are the latest to cancel high school football games after players tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the district, three varsity players tested positive, and the entire football team is isolated. They will be able to return to school on October 5.

The district is also keeping its current rotating schedule for grades 7-12.

Florence City Schools sent the following statement:

Florence City Schools has received information that we have three varsity football players who have tested positive for COVID-19.

After consultation with the Alabama Department of Public Health on Friday morning, we are announcing the cancellation and forfeiture of tonight's football game against Brentwood Academy and next week's game against James Clemens High School. This decision was made in the interest of safety for players, coaches, families, and fans. 

In order to try to cease the further spread of the virus, we are isolating the Florence High School football team.They will be able to return to school on Monday, October 5th.

Because of the increasing numbers, FCS will keep our current Blue and Silver schedule in grades 7-12 until further notice and we will continue to evaluate the situation. 

Other schools, including Huntsville High School, Hazel Green High School, Lee High School, Bob Jones High School, Ider School, and Kate Duncan Smith D.A.R. School, have canceled games due to COVID-19 concerns.
