HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Brian Matthew Mills of Hartselle was sentenced today to 179 years in prison after three convictions for crimes against a child. Brian Mills was convicted in September by a Morgan County jury of Rape in the First Degree, Incest, and Rape in the Second Degree, following a three-day trial.
According to the Morgan County District Attorney's Office, in 2019, the Morgan County Department of Human Resources received an anonymous tip regarding inappropriate text messages sent by Mills to a juvenile victim.
An investigation led to the arrest of Mills, a convicted sex offender, for rape and incest. During the trial, the victim made a statement before the judge handed down the sentence, detailing the damage Mills had caused in her life. Mills then asked for Judge Brown to give him probation.
Mills was ordered to serve 99 years in prison for Rape in the First Degree, 60 years for Rape in the Second Degree, and 20 years for the Incest charge.
Judge Brown ordered those sentences to run consecutively, for a total of 179 years in the Department of Corrections. Assistant District Attorney Joe Lewis said “We are pleased with Judge Brown’s sentence in this case and are happy that the victim received the justice she deserves.”
