Athens gas station owners arrested for attempted murder of customer he thought was trying to steal gas, sheriff says

Deputies responded to a call at around 8:30 a.m. about a vehicle chasing another vehicle and ramming into it and firing shots into it.

ATHENS, Ala — An Athens gas station owner was arrested on Sunday, Oct. 25, for attempted murder after chasing, ramming and shooting at a customer, according to the Limestone County Sheriff's Office.

LCSO said 64-year-old Phillip Wayne Stewart thought the customer was attempting to steal gas. Stewart was charged with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Deputies responded to a call at around 8:30 a.m. about a vehicle chasing another vehicle and ramming into it and firing shots into it. The victim told police the driver had chased him from the gas station.

An investigation into the events is currently underway.
