Morgan County leaders see more "young people" hospitalized by COVID-19

Decatur-Morgan Hospital officials say they are seeing people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s who are getting sick by the virus.

DECATUR, Ala. — Morgan County leaders say they've crossed 4,000 cases and are in the "high risk" category.

Decatur-Morgan Hospital now has 37 inpatients. Although the numbers went down two last Friday, leaders say it still beats the all-time high number of patients in July, which was 34.

Leaders say they are starting to see more young people hospitalized.

"I am beginning to see some thirties, forties and fifties which does alarm me and should alarm our community in the fact that I think people have gotten a lot lax about wearing the mask, social distancing. And so, some of these younger people are getting sick," says Decatur-Morgan Hospital President, Kelli Powers.

Leaders also encourage people to wear actual face coverings, and not just costume masks on Halloween this weekend.
