Decatur man sentenced to life in prison for 2019 assault, police say

The charges stem from an incident on Feb. 12, 2019, in which Decatur police responded to a restaurant regarding a reported assault.

DECATUR, Ala. — A circuit judge on Wednesday sentenced a Decatur man to life in prison for the 2019 assault of a woman.

Rodney Brown, 54, of Decatur, was found guilty of first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary and second-degree domestic violence on January 24, 2021.

On April 7, Brown was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for rape, burglary and kidnapping charges. Additionally, Brown was also sentenced to life in prison for the domestic violence charge.

The charges stem from an incident on Feb. 12, 2019, in which Decatur police responded to a restaurant regarding a reported assault.

Police say officers made contact with the victim upon arrival and she told them she had been assaulted at a different location. According to police, the victim had cuts on her head and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Police identified Brown as a suspect and he was located walking on Highway 31 South shortly after the victim was interviewed by officers.
